Greta is a spine-chilling psychological thriller. Not for the faint-hearted.
The movie begins with Frances(protagonist), a young sweet girl working as a waitress at a French restaurant. Enter Greta(antagonist)a lonely widow.
The two women start developing a bond very quickly given the fact that one is a widow and the other is a motherless child. Everything seems normal until Frances stumbles upon a set of identical purses with names written on them, left by Greta to lure a lot of girls to her place. After all, Greta is not as harmless as she seems. As the movie proceeds it’s revealed that she was in fact a nurse who was suspended for unethical practice. As soon Frances learns of her intentions she tries to flee but Greta manages to sedate and trap her in the basement. Many months pass by as nobody has a clue of where Frances is. Frances’s flatmate Erica grows increasingly suspicious of Frances’s whereabouts as she’s the only one who knew about Greta and Erica’s acquaintance. It’s is also revealed that Greta is passionate about playing the piano and used to punish her daughter by locking her in a box if she ever missed a note.
Fed up with her mother’s sadistic behavior her daughter had in fact committed suicide. Cut to the scene where we see Greta in a box emaciated and delusional.
Greta tries to put up a fight and runs to the attic where she finds bodies of young women like her. Petrified she tries to escape unsuccessfully as Greta arrives in the nick of time and sedates her. Meanwhile, Greta is able to get rid of the detective that her father had hired. Now on a killing spree, Greta will not stop at anything.
Greta continues to lure young women by leaving purses at the subway station. One such victim arrives at Greta’s place. As they continue chit-chatting, the young girl beats Greta at her own game by sedating her. This girl is none other than Erica who is disguised as a gullible young woman. She is in fact there to rescue Greta. Erica & Greta put on a tough fight and manage to knock Greta unconscious. They stuff her in the very same box in which she had kept Greta and flee the place.
Moments later we hear loud thuds of Greta who’s trying to get out of a box. The movie ends here and is left to an open
